Dilip - I want to report back to you on how Windows and Ubuntu react after I switch off the machines and restart. Today morning I got up and turned on Ubuntu and the internet does not work. I pulled out the LAN cord and plugged on Windows. I am able to browse the internet just fine from Windows . So this appears to be a Ubuntu problem. It is not able to get a DHCP connection after I power off Ubuntu and restart. Any suggestions ?

While broadband internet works on Windows - the 192.168.1.1 page is not accessible. So it appears that switching off the modem and restarting the next time messes up something.

It could be that you entered 192.168.1.20 in Windows.

Click on Wifi icon in Ubuntu > Take Wifi settings / Network settings > select the settings for your Wifi network > IPv4 > In " Address " drop down, change from DHCP Automatic to Manual.

Enter

Address -> 192.168.1.25
Network Mask -> 255.255.255.0
Gateway -> 192.168.1.1

--------------

Were you able to login to modem and enable DHCP ? If no yet, then type 192.168.1.20 on browser while you are in Windows.

Go to TCP/IP4, click on properties button. Post the screen shot here.

Type 192.168.1.12 on your browser from Windows.

PS : You should at least tell when you are entering a different value from what I told.

Dilip - sincere apologies. This mistake won't happen again. I promise.

I tried 192.168.1.12 and I get the same result. Site not reachable.

In the command prompt, type ipconfig/all and post the screen shot
