BSNL Fiber: Should I Enable Bridge Mode on TP-Link Archer C64?

Hello everyone,


I got a BSNL Fiber connection in 2023. I’m using an Optilink ONU provided by BSNL, and I’ve connected my TP-Link Archer C64 to it via LAN cable (ONU LAN to Archer C64 WAN).


I'm a regular user — I mostly stream videos, do occasional uploading, and some video editing. I also play PC games occasionally, like Valorant and similar online games. My current plan speed is 40 Mbps.


My questions:

1. In this BSNL Fiber setup, is there any need to enable Bridge Mode on the TP-Link Archer C64?
2. Will enabling Bridge Mode make any noticeable difference in performance or stability for someone like me?
3. Or is it fine to just keep both devices in their default mode?

Would appreciate your suggestions and guidance.

Choice is yours. If you haven't faced any issue yet, then no point in messing with it. But if you want to bridge it anyway then you should know that they are doing MAC address authentication now and you have to ask them to reset it.

The current setup you have seems like it's in double NAT if ONU is handling PPPoE since LAN to WAN port from ONU to the router will cause it to have another layer of NAT.
