BSNL FTTH Syrotech bridge mode - working configuration

super appreciate your help @sloj I will reach out to BSNL folks tomorrow to see what can be done. So I have to give them the MAC of my new router or just a rest will do (I assume reset means setting it blank)?

You just have to ask them to reset (setting it blank). The LCO should have the contact number of the person at BSNL who can get this done quick.

This is finally sorted out today. I requested the BSNL folks to reset the MAC. They asked me for the info regarding my WAN mac (not PPPoE MAC) as well as MAC of my new router (ER605).

The WAN mac is provided on the Syrotech ONT on the back side.

Here is complete setup in case someone wants to refer

1. On the ONT side

• Set up ONT on bridge MODE
• Select both IPV4/IPV6 on the IP Protocol Mode
• Tick Enable VLAN and enter the VLAN ID provide by BSNL
• Select 7 on 802.1p
• Select INTERNET on service mode
• Turn off LAN DHCP, unchecked

-Port Binding - I have selected both Port1 and Port 2
-Save and Apply

2. On the Router Side (TP-Link ER605 for me)
A. IPv4 settings

• Connection Type PPPoE
• User name and Password provided by BSNL
• Advance Settings

- Get IP from ISP - Enabled
- Primary DNS - (Provided by BSNL) - 218.248.112.193
- Secondary DNS - (Provided by BSNL) - 218.248.112.225
- Connection Mode - Connect Automatically
- Redial Interval - 10 secs
- Service name - FTTH
- MTU - 1492
- MRU - 1492
- Internet VLAN - Unchecked (if you check this here and enter the VLAN ID provided by BSNL it will give authentication error)
B. IPv6
- Connection Type - PPPoE
- Get IPv6 Address - Automatically
- Prefix Delegation - Enabled
- Prefix Delegation Size - 64
- DNS Address - Get from ISP Dynamically

C. MAC Address - Customize MAC Address
- MAC Address - Enter the WAN MAC address (not the PPPoE)

Apply and it should connect to both IP4 and IP6.

WAN MAC should be the PPPoE MAC. Can you share partial screenshot of the MAC addresses from UI and ONT backside?

Also MTU would be automatically set to 1460 I think when PPPoE connection is negotiated.

PPPoE MAC is different from the WAN Mac (at least in my case).

Also MTU would be automatically set to 1460 I think when PPPoE connection is negotiated - Not sure about the backend of this but the default of 1500 for bridge mode gave me PADI error (router was set to 1492)

I have a single MAC mentioned on the ONT (Digisol) backside along with PON s/n and s/n of the device. Will have to check friend's ONT when I visit. I have been using bridge mode since before they introduced MAC authentication and the router ethernet port MAC is locked I guess because I use 2 ONTs interchangeably sometimes. You can find the MAC that has been used before by logging into selfcare site and checking the session usage information.

MTU for bridge is 1500, PPPoE takes 8 and hence we get 1492 but BSNL uses 1460. 1492 is fine but I guess when connection is negotiated it will automatically set it 1460. Logs should have the information.

One problem I am facing is ONT keep reverting back to PPPoE mode (profile) after restart. I tried exporting the Bridge mode profile (along with Voice Profile) and importing it back. After restarting (after profiel import it ask you to restart), it reverts back to PPPoE profile. Also a normal restart (switching off power) leads to resetting profile back to PPPoE in the ONT. Any solutions to this?

Could be bug or something else, not sure. Which model is it? Have you tried upgrading the firmware?

Firmware was latest and its the Syrotech SY-GPON-1110-WDONT. I just called my BSNL guy and he informed me that they manage the profile from backend and everytime when system restarts or resets, they push the working profile automatically from backend. They told me that they will update the bridge profile for me and this should sort out the issues.

Remote maintenance is not done everywhere, so I didn't think about that.
