"We lagged behind other private companies, as we could not purchase the required equipment in the last 4-5 years due to many reasons. Now everything is okay and tenders to purchase has been floated," he told reporters here."BSNL has planned a Rs 40,000 crore capital for the purpose," he added.
Lets hope they invest properly and improve the backbone infrastructure. Also Its high time they open up their fibre to private players.
But i think soon , we should expect some new plans if these upgrades come into place.
Just double the current plans , i would be more than happy.

BSNL , 2-3 years back imo had the best plans , compared to others . Now even though their plans are not that bad , atleast compared to its counterpart MTNL , plans are far behind in what can be offered to its customer. They made loss in many areas , including the infamous private lines to few politicians.
I think newer plans should come out sooner to boost BSNL , currently with inflow of funds . Its also time , our Broadband goes to next step. 512kbps is too slow .

Ah. MTNL prolly has the best plans on ADSL right now, after rcom. But then you really can't count rcom :pEven if it takes a year to trickle in, I wouldn't mind that, as long as there is noticeable progress!

I simply call it a waste of tax payers hard earned money .... going down the drain. *I honestly feel that the government should instead close down BSNL & use that money for other development purposes or simply use BSNL as a national network manager then ask other ISP's to use BSNL's network where applicable, maybe even mandate.

Required equipment? I'll tell you something. BSNL has the LATEST equipment. All their equipment is new. I've seen it with my own eyes. They just don't have the right people running these machines. Also there is heavy internal politics and massive corruption that leads to such poor quality services.

As per insiders, BSNL has terrible bandwidth bottleneck in their mobility infrastructure due to late decision making. I guess this will address that. If you're using an android on BSNL mobile network, you can see that most of the c2dm messages are delayed like WhatsApp. I've changed to idea due to this issue.

I don't think they should shut down it completely. Remember, it was when BSNL started playing in mobility when the sky high mobile costs came down. So atleast as a guideline to the regulating authority, BSNL should be there. And what about rural areas broadband connectivity? I don't have any other players than BSNL at my home town to select from. But it's hightime they should increase the productivity!
