No arguments with either of you, but the statement was made that it doesn't work.

It definitely does, even though the performance is rubbish by comparison to what I get by not using it, and there aren't many good reasons you *should* use the Tor network for streaming video or P2P, which, for the record, I don't, and I fully agree that it should not be used in this fashion.

However...

For the purpose of getting around blocks (and you really should add India to the list of highly censored countries) without using these silly freemium VPN services, I feel Tor is a much better option and I support it a whole lot more.

This is the original statement I was trying to make.

If it were worth doing, I'd add a Tor-exit node in my network but the upstream blocking in India would kind of defeat the purpose.

Subscribing to a paid-VPN and/or seedbox-like service should be equally good for those that really want to use P2P/video streaming, but this is limited to those that have that option.

I think you just don't understand or are trying to hide the fact that Tor is just a browser add-on/browser software. It won't work with anything else apart from an internet browser. It doesn't even work with applications like mIRC and it does NOT give you full anonymity as it doesn't work with all applications. Tor just can't be compared with a VPN.
