Location
India
ISP
Jio Fiber, Airtel 5G
On my Android phone (Lollipop 5.1), when I get incoming call, below the incoming call number, location is also displayed. For most mobile calls just India is displayed. For landline call, city is also displayed based on STD code. Now I was not sure how location was displayed, but I was assuming it was due to app "Phone Warrior" which had mentioned capability to display location even without internet connection.
I have uninstalled this app, still location is displayed. So I guess location detection (offline) is inbuilt into Android?

Now this is good feature to have, only except it works as expected. If I get call from some mobile like +918485XXXXXX. Location is displayed as Karnataka as perhaps 08485 STD code belongs to Karnataka. While 8485 mobile series belongs to Uninor as displayed by another app (Indian Caller Info). It happens for mostly 7X and 8X mobile number series.

So I am curious to know if anybody else observed this feature of Android, and is this feature built-in within OS or data is coming from any app.

has been an internal feature for a many versions now. country is generally accurate (easy)... state is not. a lot of local calls on my number show south indian regions even though they are definitely not on roaming.

Yep. I don't think the OS can differentiate between std calls from landline and local cell calls.

An example: +91 80 80 123456

Is a Mumbai reliance number, but 80 is also the STD code for Bangalore, iirc. Difference being, an std call from Bangalore will have the digit 2/3/4/6/7 after +91 80.

This is really good feature for Android. If only it was able to differentiate Landline call from mobile call.
If call comes from mobile number 9X series, then it simply displays India. Issue is only with 7X and 8X series.

After MNP, nothing would change as landline number locations are displayed very well, and mobile calls it anyways not detecting location correctly :)

Just use TrueCaller like every second Indian :P

TrueCaller needs active data connection, which I dont have for my Android phone. But I use "Indian Caller Info" app which displays operator and location correctly (most of times).
