As you may well aware, BSNL has partnered with a private company for managing email services offered by it to its broadband clients ( @dataone.in). The email solution of this private company is branded as XGEN. This partnership raises many issue.

1) To promote this service, BSNL is resorting to unethical :redirection: policy to redirect users to its promotional page www.mail.bsnl.in. This is discussed widely in many forums as well here BSNL Broadband is randomly redirecting users to their webmail service‽ | Page 7 • BSNL Broadband • India Broadband Forum.

2) Can BSNL offer its subscriber base to a private company? Most of the bsnl subscriber go to bsnl just because it is a public sector company. But, BSNL ignoring this sentiment itself goes to a private company. How fair and safe is this arrangement?

3) If at all, this is ok, the next question is how do they select their partner. Among all the available similar e mail solution companies in India, how did they select this particular company?

4) The copyright is held by the private company. I have not heard a public sector company promoting a privately copyrighted product anywhere-else.

5) Even the fevicon on the address bar that appears with www.mail.bsnl.in shows that of the private company icon/logo XGEN, not BSNL. This is outright takeover of BSNL by a private entity on virtual world.

6) The BSNL broadband users do not have any knowledge of the agreement/ terms etc between BSNL and this private entity,

I would like forum members to share their opinion on this.

airtel migrated to google apps many years ago. and then one fine day, dumped google apps to switch to microsoft outlook.
stay away from business services offered by these isps.

Clear breach of Single Window Internet ( or what people call Net Neutrality ) adherence. But just like anything else, it is always BSNL employees who decide what to do with their services.
