I am using a regular modem - T-KD 318 EUI - for my MTNL connection and I am on Freedom 800 NU Plan provided by MTNL Delhi. Now I want to get it changed to Wi-fi modem. So, can I order a change of modem online or do I have to call them. I s it 1500? And till what time? And do I need to do it before the month ends e.g., today if want it to get a new modem from next month i.e., 2nd March, 2015.

Also let me know whether ports can be forwarded on all the modems provided by Delhi MTNL so that I can usu p2p, games etc. And also guide me on how I can get the best Wi-fi modem from them and if possible let me know the name and model number.

One more thing I wanted to know is whether I can use USB Adapter on my PC to use Wi-fi on my Phone etc. although I want to use LAN for internet on my PC. Please guide me on both the scenarios. Thank you.

yup. i personally like keeping the modem and router separately. this way you can have two good devices instead of one mediocre one.

Thank you for the replies. I called 1500 and the lady at MTNL told me there is a non-refundable charge of Rs 500 as deposit for the first month along with Rs 100 as modem rental every month instead of Rs 70 even if I already have a regular modem provided by MTNL - this is surprising. So, I have not ordered a Wi-fi modem yet.

Also, I am not sure if ports can be forwarded on a new Wi-fi modem provided by MTNL for p2p. So, please guide.

About your suggestion to buy a separate router - I do not want to spend on one right now - so is it possible to buy and attach an USB Wi-fi Adapter/Dongle on the USB Port of my PC, continue using the existing modem, get internet using LAN cable (from the MTNL Modem to my PC) and distribute/emit internet ahead over Wi-fi to my mobile devices from my PC using the USB Wi-fi Adapter. Please guide on this scenario as well. Thanks.

Any response? At least on the way to use USB Wi-fi Adapter to emit Wi-fi internet signals through my PC. Thanks again.

Use connectify
I am so sorry for responding to your reply so late. Thank you very much for your reply.

Yes, I think I can use connectify for what I am planning to do. I shall try it but before that I need to buy an USB Wi-fi Adapter. Could you please tell me which brand and model to go for such an adapter to solve my purpose best with the least cost? Thanks again.
