Can i use Vi 4G’s DNS server on home broadband

I dont know much about DNS servers in general i just know these are like phonebook for the internet

I have a silly/stupid question

Would using a telecom operators such as Vi have any positives over conventional dns like 1.1.1.1 , 8.8.8.8 or open dns?

Also why does Quad 9 DNS show as bharti airtel?

For starters, VI themselves use these “conventional DNS servers” for upstream requests.

Using VI's DNS servers might only be useful to you, if your ISP uses Vodafone as an IP transit, as that way you can fetch localized CDN servers.
Or, if these servers provide marginally better latency compared to others.
Lastly, if you are experiencing packet loss to other servers.

An ISP will usually use bare bone or low-end servers, which will never be fast enough.
Providers like Cloudflare, Q9, Cisco are specialized in such offerings and have customized solutions to maintain such a service.

About the Quad9 DNS Bharti Airtel thing, this was already discussed on: DNSLeak to Airtel when using Quad9
This is expected in our "bom2" Mumbai location. Our network partner is unable to announce their unicast IP space there via BGP, so we have to use some bandwidth donated by Bharti Airtel to perform outbound DNS queries. This network is not used between the client and Quad9; only between Quad9 and the root / authoritative DNS servers.

on.quad9.net is the source of truth. We have a few global locations with a similar network configuration, so a DNS leak test will yield unexpected results in those few locations, but this our expected IP address in Mumbai.

Oh wow i didnt know in the end it was Cloudflare or google dns at vi

Also i did use this DNS benchmark tool ,i kept getting opendns as the fastest dns
But then sometimes opendns just suddenly slows down everything and then i have to revert back to 1.1.1.1

Apart from opendns
Cloudflare seems to be the fastest but the same issue keeps occuring

Where everything just slows down while getting 200mbps in speedtest

Not exactly a specific time

It randomly slows down browsing speeds ,youtube video loading speed ,even wifi calls drop

Until i change the dns

It might be a isp issue tho

If Cisco is not working for you, switch to a different DNS. Cloudflare and google are also pretty good. DNS lookups are usually cached if you visit a site frequently. If you are facing slowdowns, it's most likely a ISP issue. Change your DNS to google or cloudflare and do a dns flush, see if it makes any difference.
