i wish there was a compilation of average bandwidth costing in various countries with respect to the purchasing power of the people to give a better idea of how things are now that FUP is becoming a global phenomenon. :D

It changes way too fast. By the time someone uploaded the data it'd be out of date.

That and the dreaded FUP has been a phenomenon since long before it was a twinkle in Airtel's eye.

This was a factor for my moving to Finland back in 2005. When I was researching for the places I wanted to live in mid-2004, Scandinavia quickly rose up on my list due to high-speed Internet and lack of data transfer limits.
 
i think comcast was the first major ISP to make international headlines with their 200/250GB limits. airtel made it popular here in india. and now it is becoming a widespread menace. not the concept itself which is not the issue. the crappy limitations which are not practical in nature. i mean i can understand india. but in usa? where you have netflix, Amazon video on demand and tons of other legitimate services!
 
But actually now that you mention it, there are various graphs comparing the price of bandwidth between various countries - I'm sure I could ferret something out of the googles.

I quite agree. In many cases, the ISPs are kind of double-dipping. They take money from the customer for the last-mile and so forth then they also take money from the content network for getting the content on to the ISP network in the first place.

this is nice. 2 americans are now offering their services. they would download legit material and burn it on CD/DVD and ship it to canadian folks!
 
Netflix I think has been operational in Canada for a couple of months now already. :D

Ah. I heard some speculation that it was a coincidence that this decision was made 1 week before it was due to launch.
