Change DTH provider, not set top box-Mumbai-Cities-The Times of India

DTH user has finally taken to court against DTH operator for not providing interoperability.
The SC is likely to hear the matter soon. The petition has been filed in the larger public interest on the grounds that right to entertainment is part of the citizen’s fundamental right.

In 2001, the central government decided to permit DTH service, which changed TV viewing forever. The cable operator became optional for many households that decided to get directly linked.

The licence condition, the petition said, clearly said that \"the open architecture (non-proprietary) set top box, which will ensure technical compatibility and effective interoperability among different DTH service providers, shall have such specifications as laid down by the government from time to time.

The petitioner said it was clear that there \"should be technical compatibility and effective interoperability among the set top boxes of different service providers. In other words, changing service providers should not financially burden the consumers by having to invest in the boxes and dish antenna all over again.
