Cheap Modems ruining Airtel Broadband Experience

Didn't see this thread earlier but I am using a Netgear 824M ADSL MODEM/Wireless router that I picked up cheaply in the U.S. on my Airtel connection and it works flawlessly. I just let the modem detect all the connection settings, plugged in my name and p@$$word when requested and was up and running in a few minutes. I returned the Yozan router to Airtel and they waived the rental fee.Compared to the Yozan, this modem/router is much more stable (I rarely have to reboot, if ever, whereas the Yozan used to go down every few hours).One question though. The Yozan was running on a PPoA connection while the Netgear detected a PPOE connection. Anyone know why?

I picked the 824M refurbished at Justdeals.com for $45 shipped (they're out of stock now). That's about Rs. 2000! It looks like it was a returned unit as everything in the box looked brand new. Prices are unbelievably cheap in the U.S.. If you look at bargain sites like Techbargains.com or bensbargains.net you can sometimes see wireless g routers go for less than $10. Sometimes you can make money on them after rebates if you have the patience!

It's the Chinese effect (the factory to the world).

That means picked up in U.S.A or India

do we have h@$$les like duty n customs etc for products bought from ebay and other sites ?
