I have been out of loop but I heard that they are selling tickets at double the usual price in some cities. Like Rs. 500 instead of Rs. 250. Checking Book My Show for my city...
Shows Rs. 200 for the morning show on a Monday. Looks inflated to me.
Let's see... Highest prices that I can find... This is for Monday...
PVR: MGF Mall, Gurgaon Rs. 250
PVR: Directors Cut Rs. 1000!
DT Star Cinemas: Vasant Kunj Rs. 390
PVR: Priya, Vasant Vihar Rs. 200

Don't think there's anything wrong in it. In fact the the move can backfire as people may skip the movie feeling its not worth the money. To have earned 100 crores in just 3 days is commendable. And what I like is that so often rubbish movies earn for their star cast. At least that's not the case this time. The movie is actually good. The mouth publicity (word of mouth as they say) is also on the positive side. I will be surprised if Chennai Express doesn't go ahead 3 idiots in terms of commercial business.

lol. the bigger question here is... who verifies the claims about doing Rs. 100 crore business. i am not saying chennai express has definitely not achieved this milestone but the way things are today, i would not trust any claims. especially from the makers of the movies. in any case, based on the trailers, i am not watching this one. and i can safely say 3 Idiots is a far superior movie if you compare the movies from any angle.

Haha. The critics collect the stats from the theatres. All critics are claiming it has earned 100, even the ones who aren't a part of the SRK clan. The figures are varying from 100-106. And yes, 3 idiots is far better than Chennai Express. There's absolutely no comparison. But in today's scenario the more the movie earns, people consider it to be a better movie. 3 idiots is the highest grossing Bollywood movie, and rightly so because it was just so brilliant. But commercially I feel that Chennai Express will break the record. I may be wrong too.

Ek Tha Tiger did bumper business as well.. So...
Still 120 Rs in Chennai :pleasantry:
100 crores is no longer a benchmark for a good movie..

Ek Tha Tiger was 199 I guess, and is second behind 3 idiots. Didn't deserve so much IMO. People watched it for Salman - Katrina. :/

It simply doesnt make sense, because prices have gone up. I guess tickets sold might be a better benchmark, but doubt that numbers can be properly tracked.

Well, the bad thing is that this would create a new trend. All major blockbusters would ask multiplexes to charge a premium at least during the first few days so that they also get a 'fair' chance to enter the Rs. 100 crore market as soon as possible.
It does not necessarily proves that the movie is a blockbuster. It basically proves that people get what they deserve. Shitty governance and shitty movies.
