Hey guys. So, I play CoD:MW (Multiplayer) & Call of Duty Warzone on my PlayStation 4 Pro. I get good ping games, less than 100ms, and in-game I get a ping fluctuating between 70ms to 90ms. In Warzone, often amidst middle of a gunfight or just simply running around the game I sometimes get 1 - 10% packet loss, and it feels jittery as hell. It's really frustrating to play in a jittery lag. When I play Ground War, a mode within CoD:MW, which is 50vs50 - almost identical to Warzone but in a much smaller scale, the game is stable. I get packet loss in Ground War too, but it's not that lagging. One can clearly tell a difference between the two, performance and lag wise. I've connected my PlayStation 4 through LAN port from the router. When I play, max of just two devices are connected on 2.4Ghz.

My Setup -
- Internet Plan - 1277 (Upto 100Mbps)
-Genexis Earth 1000R xPON bridged to TP-Link AC1200 router through WAN Port (On router UPnP enabled and DMZ for PlayStation IP)

ONT Settings -
  • Enabled Bridge Mode, with VLAN ID set to the one given by ISP
  • 802.1p Mark is set to 0
  • Disabled QoS & NAPT
  • Connection Type is "Internet"
  • Enabled DHCP with the IP Address Pool ranging from 193.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254
  • Disabled IPv6

Router Settings -
  • Configured PPPoE with the given BSNL Credentials
  • MTU Value is set to 1460
  • DNS Servers - 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1
  • I get IP Address of 117.xx from BSNL
  • QoS enabled, 85% to PS4, and 5% to the devices connected on 2.4Ghz

PlayStation 4 Settings -
  • NAT Type on my PlayStation 4 is Type 2
  • I have NAT Type "Open" inside the game

Is there anything I can do to improve the gaming experience? Thanks.

Why is mtu value set to 1460?. It should be 1492 for pppoe connections.

Try using a VPN. It might be difficult for you since you're using console but there's ways to do it.
BSNL's routing is weird.
I have a VPN server in AWS and it gives best ping and no packet loss.

Can you give me trace route for 75.2.69.178 with and without aws VPN
also ping response too!
i tried b4 but i can't make aws account (my card not supported for payment to create free account! :/ )

Without VPN

I had a wireguard server in Singapore but I removed it. wg felt a bit too much of a pain in the ass to maintain.
I believe most "Asia server" for online games are located in Singapore. In my experience VPN server in Mumbai and Singapore gives roughly the same latency.

@shin Thank you for sharing these results. I get 15-25 ms for this ip . but other networks(ACT,HATHWAY,AIRTEL) are getting 1ms. This is awsacclerator 's ip address ,which further routes me to singapore game servers. So i thought if we use VPN from aws then it would have 1ms response time .
