Background:
I've bought NETLINK Blue color router from BSNL (Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh) for Rs.3000 and Installation cost 1000/-. However I was advised to buy the router online for cheaper price (around 2600/- at the time of installation) but I went to get the router offered by them. To my surprise, installation was done on the same day. Router was configured and provided on the following day. I was amazed to see such quick installation from BSNL. (Nostalgic moment: My first Nokia SIEMENS modem by BSNL offered 256Kbps Internet connection in 2006 and this was the first time I was introduced to internet)
Plan: Fiber Basic Plus (60Mbps+3300GB).
I request them to provide Fiber Basic Plan 30Mbps +3300GB but they told me its not possible, starting plan is 599/- and I went with that.
Router: I was provided with 2Ethernet RJ45 Ports (where LAN2 port is Gigabit Port which supports speed higher than 100Mbps and LAN1 port capped at 100Mbps-practically 92Mbps), one RJ11 Port (ie.,Telephone connection port)
I got the router configured properly and now I am lacking with 5GHz band on my NETLINK router as the router provided to me supports only 2.4GHz band. So I bought the D-Link Eagle Pro router from Amazon which is Wifi6 latest router with 4Gigabit Ethernet Ports and smart features, also can be controlled via smart phone application.
Click here for Amazon Link ( I bought this device for 2810/- during Big Billion Day sale)
I've upgraded my plan to 200Mbps-3300GB-Fibre Premium via BSNL CUSTOMER CARE . Plan got upgraded within 2working days. But to enjoy that speed, my NETLINK Router supports only 2.4Ghz band where I am getting only speeds upto 90-105Mbps peak via wifi and I'm losing nearly 100Mbps. Hence I decided to get D-Link Wifi6 router and thought to connect this with the NETLINK.What made me to learn Netlink BSNL configuration on my own?
Now, after watching couple of youtube videos and articles, I decided to change the setting inside NETLINK Router from Router mode to Bridge Mode. Once I set it to bridge, I'm unable to access NETLINK router anymore. The only way to access internet for me is to use dlink router and via PPPOE. Unfortunately, dlink router firmware is so buggy and I thought to go back to my netlink router but now, I've to manually reset it as I set this in Bridge Mode.
Warning Mode: Setting your NETLINK router to BRIDGE mode makes you lost access to your modem either via ethernet or wifi. Bridge mode indicates that NETLINK is acting as modem. The reason I set it to bridge mode, I want a single router in my network for all devices, but not two devices.
For enthusiasts to know the difference between Modem and Router: Watch this video
I've saved the webpages as pdf after logging to the router before setting it to BRIDGE mode. This helped me to copy the values for configuration.
Before going to configuration, this article assumes that you get necessary username and password from your local authority.Configuration-INTERNET
Still, I'll try to help you giving some hints.
(I pressed the RESET Button in the router using SIM Ejection tool)
router login: admin
router password: stdONU101 (shown on backside of router)
If you are accessing router via wifi=> Wifi password: 12345678 (shown on backside of router)
Initially, they configured me as Username: admin ;;; Password: bsnl@1234 (This has to be known from your bsnl authority office such that later you can change wifi ssid and password)
Network Tab => It shows WAN Configuration
Connection Name: Add new wan connection
Mode: Route
IP protocol mode: IPv4
Check the radio button=>PPPPoE
Enable NAT: Tick yes
Enable VLAN: Tick yes
Vlan ID: I entered 181 (this might differ for you)
802.11p : null
MTU: 1492 (this will be automatically taken by the device, initially when they configured me, it was 1460 (the maximum transmission unit is the size of the largest protocol data unit that can be communicated in a single network layer transaction Source)
PPP type: AUTOCONNECTUsername: If your bsnl account is registered as Arun Kumar, then starting two letters i.e., ar +your std code (Tirupati exisiting std code is 0877) +telephone [email protected]
example: [email protected]
Password: password ( lower case and I believe this is common for all)
Service mode:INTERNET
Click on Save and apply
Now under Status tab, wan connection info, you will notice like following.
| 1_INTERNET_R_VID_181 | 181 | PPPoE | Enable | up | 117.213.xxx.xx | 255.255.255.255 | 14:a7:2b:da:xx:xx |
Reboot the device, now you will start seeing the PON (passive optical network port)light turned on to green in the router.
Initially I struggled a lot in configuring the voice as I missed out some points which I would mention here, that would help you easily to configure voice.Configuration-VOICE
