Hi,I have a BSNL broadband with a Huawei MT800 modem and the username of the form username@dataone. When I got the internet, the person who set it up installed a program called 'EnterNet' on my windows 98 machine. I use that application to connect to broadband but I do not know what settings he used for the connection. Now, I have a new laptop which has Vista in it. How can I connect my laptop to the broadband?Thanks,-Ganesh

it depends on how your modem is setup.modem can be setup in 2 modes---bridge & pppoe.in bridge mode you have to use windows new connection wizard to connect to net & it will make a shortcut on desktop & when you double click on that a window will come up asking for username/password.enter & click on connect & you are connected.

in pppoe mode your bsnl username/password is set in modem itself so that whenever you turn on the modem it will automatically connect to net without you have to do anything using computer & even if computer is off modem will still get connected.

pppoe mode is better as it is more secure & in pppoe mode you can simultaneously connect more than 1 computer & surf net.to configure modem in pppoe mode go here---
BSNL BROADBAND MAIN MENU

yes! if its in Pppoe mode then Vista will automatically connect to your internet..for bridge mode u have to manually establish a connection.

I cannot access my MT800 using the ip http://192.168.1.1. I tried using 192.168.0.1 as well but to no avail. MY ipconfig screenshot is as belo.http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=44772034yl1.jpgI tried the ip marked as 'default gateway' too but I get the same result. Is it in any way because I am on windows 98??

Problem : Dekstop with Windows 98 and AX MT 800 modem .
How many ethernet cards you have in your Desktop with Windows 98 ?
In Device Manager check there and uninstall extra two.
or post board details.
See my post No 4 . Since you cannot access the modem settings , how you lost connection ? as per screenshot ?
In TCP IP Properties have you selected obtain IP address automatically ?
In DNS what are the present entries ? SaVE THE DETAILS.
Replace with OPEN dns 208.67.220.220 AND 208.67.222.222.
IP address 169.254.242.240 is a default private LAN address, and usually
will result in no connection. .
Reset the modem ( with power on for 30 seconds ). to factory settings.
Now try 192.168.1.1 etc.
Para two :
See Post No 2 by member/whitestar_999/
Open the website and see settings for Huawei modem 882 or 841 . settings should be similar. In WAN page
VPI/VCI 0_35 Not "bridged" select PPP/PPPoE " Always On " Idle time 0 etc.

TASK TWO : Laptop with VISTA and Netgear DG834PN adslmodem+wifi router.
Pending/ No Feedback.

I have managed to get this working. I simply created a new PPPoE connection in Windows Vista and entered my username and password. I did not change any settings. I am now able to connect properly using the MT800.

/great_guns/1.Congrats. You are now connecting to Internet with MT 800 in DIALUP mode.2.TASK TWO : Laptop with VISTA and Netgear DG834PN adslmodem+wifi router. Pending/ No Feedback.
