I was among the early birdies to opt for BIG TV Smart South 2190 pack and got it installed on Aug 24th 2008. Here is my experience that I thought could be useful for others

While installing the service guys did the recharging of the 700 bucks coupon. I asked for Tamil regional pack which they said is done. I could not initially verify the activation details as they said we get all channels for the first 3 weeks. Starting Sept 8th 2008, I get only the Starter pack channels. I made 5 calls to CC. Registered a complaint. And guess what is my problem on earth?

1. First CC person tells me that their system is down and call after 30mins. He also asked me to clean my smart card and insert again. No use.

2. After 30mins, Second person tells me that their system is slow and call after 30 mins.

3. After the next 30mins, one gentleman was ready to take my complaint and says it will take 48hrs to let me know about the status.

4 . After 2 days, on Sept 10th 2008, the fourth guy tells me, the call is in progress and a few tips like holding the standby button and powering on the STB. Again no use.

5. The fifth one goes on to tell me that the Telugu regional pack has been enabled for me and nothing can be done. Which is actually Greek for me. When I asked if this is a loss for your mistake, the reply is a happy YES. Now I am supposed to contact the place where I bought the STB to return it. This is another nonsense, I had to take.

On top of it, the first 3 CC people, did not know that the Reliance Service charter says the customer problem will be solved with a single call (http://www.bigtv.co.in/pdf/BIG%20TV%20Service%20Charter.pdf). Funny part is the question of who told this to you.

I clearly understand the CC cares. But the repeated questions of what is the problem after keeping the customer on hold certainly irritates.

Few notes before others assume

1. I am a geniune customer. For privacy reasons, I cannot reveal my subscriber id though.

2. I am not biased or an employee of another DTH company.

3. I am satisfied with the Picture quality

4. Audio quality varies from channel to channel

5. The response in the menu is sluggish at times.

6. I had been checking www.broadbandforum.co for deciding on the BIG TV DTH.

hmmm, now im having second thoughts bout installing bigtv... maybe i'll wait for another month or two.Anyways thanks for the info..:thumb:

well i have been telling people to hold on and not buy Big Tv right now, as in October both airtel and videocon are starting their dth services, we will see prices dropping then:wall:

If this is the service provided by BIG TV - the first month when they start operations, imagine how it would be in a couple of years!Consumers should have the flexibility to change their plans whenever they wish to. This not a Taliban ruled country! Customer service sucks!

Guess what? My problem was solved last evening. :yahoo:Well before the 48hours time of the complaint. Well, I could not guess what solved it. Could be the complaint with the CC, or a call to the guy who installed or an escalation to the highest level of Reliance ADA. Whatever it is thanks to the guys for listening. I am receiving my Regional Tamil pack for now. What I am still skeptic is "for how long?". Till then I can watch my favorite reality shows. I had a last resort of returning the STB to the dealer as I did not get what I wanted. This is something most of us in India are not aware of. In Europe or the US, the customer has the right to return the goods if he is not satisfied with it. It is time we stand up for our rights as customer. For a while I thought my cable wala had a last laugh before disconneting, when he said any DTH will have a problem. He was right, problem exists. But not forever. Patience pays. Hope it does for all those who are waiting for installation of their BIG TV including a colleague of mine, to whom I had earlier recommended it.
