desperate help from the seniors here

hi i have a spectranet BB {6mps/plan} cable BB to my Desktop. i also need to connect it to my laptop {WITHOUT ROuter} to the ethernet port on me laptop...but despite pluging in and the green light coming in me laptop ...i cant access the net . as iam from non computer field, any seniors can use laymans lang and help me in thanks a ton guys

What kind of connection is it? do you need to enter user name and password? Then create a new connection dialer with those details.
