The Essel group owned Dish TV is set to launch Personal Video Recorder (PVR) next month. Dish TV managing director, Jawahar Goel confirmed the same to FE.

“Our PVR is ready for commercial launch. We will start offering the service in July,” he said. On being queried on the pricing of the product, Goel said the company is yet to finalise on that aspect.
However, according to a media analyst the price should hover around Rs 10,000 or will remain above that mark. “Since the personal video recorder is expected to remain a high-end niche product at least initially, its price will not be comparable to the price of existing set top boxes.
However, the product will bring a revolution in the TV viewing habits in long-term leading to volume sales at least in the metropolitan city markets, eventually pushing the prices down. Also other players getting into the segment will lead to competitive pricing of the device eventually,” the analyst said. The device will provide a recording facility so that a user can programme this device to record a TV programme according to one’s convenience. It will also enable DTH players to offer other value added services like video-on-demand.
