Essel Group owned direct-to-home (DTH) service DishTV is all set to extend its satellite channel capacity to 420 with the launch of its own satellite Argani scheduled by June-end this year. Once operational, the satellite would also enable DishTV to provide broadband internet service to its subscribers.
DishTV, which has offered a free-of-cost set top box (STB) to all new subscribers with new connections, is looking at doubling its customer base of 31 lakh within next 45 days. The same is planned ahead of its Rs 800 crore satellite project being handled by Chinese satellite company ProtoStar.

Speaking to Business Standard , a DishTV official close to developments said, \"Protostar has almost finalised the schedule for launch of DishTV's satellite from Kourou from French Guyana. We expect a launch in the last week of June the satellite would be operational by July second week. We will then have additional 14 Ku-band and 12 c-band transponders for satellite TV broadcast.\"

DishTV presently holds 9 c-band transponders on a European satellite NSS-6 and can show 220 TV channels. Being the oldest company in the market, it enjoys market leadership ahead of Prasarbharati's DD Direct Plus, Tata Sky and Sun TV services.
\"We are planning to provide internet connection through DTH platform. Once the new satellite is operational, internet services would be feasible technically. Present DishTV users would have to exchange their STBs and dish to avail internet service if needed,\" the official added.

With the launch of its satellite and the scheduled entry of new players like Reliance and Airtel in the DTH market, DishTV has decided to offer free STBs to all its new subscribers. New subscribers who opt for the annual maxi package worth Rs 3,990 will also get to watch 67 movies-on-demand (MoD) free of cost.

A number of airlines are also in talks with DishTV to provide TV entertainment during flights. Presently, 20 planes operated by Kingfisher Airlines have DishTV systems installed. Indian Railways is also considering a proposal to install DTH systems in long distance trains, for which, DishTV remains a preferred player, the official added.

huge money invested lets hope they get it successful and the people enjoy from them.

this all is just for saying, to raise interest from customers. internet is not going to come soon. and why wud some1 go for internet with high ping times when there wud be local wifi/wimax/3g. unless u r in very remote location its not going to be of much use.

What ever may be such news posting is not wrong all the time .... compared to TS dishtv price far much cheaper for the middle class people who cannot spend much for the subcriptions... Once the new satellite launches hope we can see some new channels at a better price... GOOD WORK BY ICAR !!!!Continue the good work DISHTV !!!

Dish TV holds permission for HITS, invests Rs 1 bn for satellite
Zee group's direct-to-home (DTH) company Dish TV India Ltd. holds the permission from the information & broadcasting ministry for the implementation of the Headend-In-The-Sky (HITS) platform.
\"It is not the cable TV company Wire & Wireless India Ltd (WWIL) that holds the HITS licence but Dish TV,\" confirms a source in the company.
The operations of the HITS project, however, will rest with WWIL. \"Dish TV will get some revenue flow from WWIL because of this. The teleport operations will also be with Dish TV. But HITS operations will obviously be carried out by WWIL,\" the source adds.
For the HITS project, Zee network is likely to use AsiaSat 4's C-band transponders. \"The number of C-band transponders we are going to utilise will depend on the number of channels that we will carry on the platform. We are likely to use Asiasat 4's C-band transponders,\" the source adds.
HITS will enable a pan India digital rollout by providing local cable operators (LCOs) with digital signals. LCOs do not need a local digital head-end, separate subscriber management system (SMS) and conditional access arrangements. \"WWIL plans to market the product across India, mainly focusing on large housing projects, townships, Hotels etc. HITS can also be implemented to service smaller towns and villages, which will increase our scope. We would also be able to provide the services to the smaller LCOs and replace their redundant analog head-end with a HITS installation,\" says the source.
Dish TV expects the ProtoStar satellite to stabilise by August after launching in June-end. It will have all the Ku-band transponders of the satellite, enhancing Dish TV's capacity to offer more channels to its DTH subscribers.
Dish TV has already invested Rs 1 billion towards the satellite through its wholly owned subsidiary company Agrani Satellite Services Ltd, the source says. Earlier Zee Network whole time director Punit Goenka had told Indiantelevision.com that it would be investing $64 million over a five-year period towards the satellite.
Dish TV has close to 100 Dish Care Centers (DCCs) and service franchisees, which function as its service face in the market providing installation and after sale-service. It has a 500-seat call centre, answering calls from across India, related to content provisioning, prospective customers and dealers, complaints and suggestions, service packages, etc.
With a subscriber base of 3.2 million subscribers, Dish TV has 575 distributors and around 35,000 dealers present in 4300 towns across India.
