does pci wi-fi adaptor have better reception then usb adaptor

i've bought a Linksys wifi router and a usb adaptor for pc....the range i am getting is quite less though the distance is hardly 20feet with only a wooden cupboard in between line of sight..someone suggested me to go for pci adaptor as it has better reception..is it true ??...if yes than i can still exchange mine..
