Indian cricket lovers have been robbed of revisiting a piece of history created by former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar, when he achieved the feat of scoring 10,000 Test runs in 1987. The tape of that famous India-Pakistan Ahmedabad Test has gone missing from the archival section of Doordarshan, who used to produce and broadcast matches back in the day.
As many as six officials from Prasar Bharati and DD had no explanation behind the unavailability. Replying to a query by a national daily under the Right to Information (RTI) Act whether DD in fact possessed the archival footage of the "match where Gavaskar became the highest run-getter in the world (India v Pakistan, March 4 to 9, 1987), the national broadcaster replied: "Not available".
