Good news!
DD has said that commonwealth games would be produced in HD (along with SD feed) and not all its other programs. So which ever broadcasters abroad have HD capability can broadcast those games in HD. China did same thing with Olympics, and in many countries games were broadcasted in HD.
BTW Don't worry in India we would enjoy! those games in SD as we dont have HD capablility with any operators yet (I guess).

NEWSX also produces its news content in HD capable format. So if any broadcaster has HD facility then NEWSX could be broadcast in HD, but doesnt seems it happening soon.

Haha how about Gully cricket(poor mans ipl) in HD. also cant wait to see in HD is DD sports old vhs tapped events which they repeat over and over.

Will air Games in high-definition format, claims DD - Express India
Will air Games in high-definition format, claims DD

Amid much speculation regarding the airing of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the high-definition (HD) format, Doordarshan, the host broadcaster of the Games, has claimed that it is under modernisation and will be ready before the Games to relay its signals in the upgraded format. Talking to Newsline, DD Chief Engineer R R Prasad said: “The existing technology at Prasar Bharati is being upgraded. DD is also trying to put at least one high-definition (HD) channel on its Direct to Home service to enable screening of the Games.”
...

According to Prasar Bharati officials, the Broadcast Engineers Corporation India Limited has already been engaged to determine the cost of upgrading the transmission facility. Lalli said the project of establishing HD studios in Delhi and Mumbai was under way too. Similar studios will also come up in Chennai and Kolkata before the Games.

How many homes in India are only watching DD (and what are the reasons?)May be because they cannot afford cable or DTH? and if so, giving HD contents over DD, they need HD capable hardware. If they dont afford to switch over cable or DTH then how would they buy HD enabled hardwares!!!And if even people with buying capacity will buy HD enabled hardwares (TV, STB and others) then why will they watch DD when they are already used to of viewing high quality contents from other channels? Its nothing but 1 more scam from DD officials to take home black money (switching to new tech, buying new hardwares for telecast and they buy from their own sources and take out heavy money from it) - just a scam on the name of growth/development.This is something of - BSNL launches Blackberry. Yaar, their mobile doesnt work properly - network goes off frequently then what will we able to do with Blackberry? Even a mail wont go out then whats a purpose of having Blackberry from BSNL?Same way, if those cant afford to see HD contents and those who can afford but do not like to watch those programmes then WHO will watch their HD contents? (themselves?)

^^^
HD broadcast by DD is not for India, but the commonwealth games board has mandated host country's broadcaster to broadcast the games in HD as well (along with SD). So if DD is producing games in HD, they can provide the HD telecast (on DD Sports or simply on DD-HD channel) to Indian audience too. You are right many may not have hardware/TV to receive HD right now, but may be by 2010 atleast 5-10% population may have it. So DD providing (only) common wealth games in HD.
offtopic: BTW BSNL has also launched Blackberry
