BlackBerry announces $299 DTEK50 Android phone, but it's just a rebranded Alcatel Idol 4

Externally, the DTEK50 is identical to the Idol 4, save for a custom back panel with BlackBerry branding. Everything else is pure Alcatel from the front-facing speaker design to the offset USB port on the bottom. The display is 5.2-inches and 1080p. Inside, the specs are the same too. That means you're looking at a Snapdragon 617, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of storage with microSD card, and a 2610mAh battery.

I suppose this is a good business model. Partner with existing companies and manage the software.
 
I would prefer this over any other Chinese Xiaomi/Gionee/etc :)
Though I am aware that DTEK50 is manufactured by Chinese OEM, but BlackBerry would have made it secure device.
 
BlackBerry has track record of not falling for govt request to access their servers. I hope they still continue with that.
I read long time ago that Chinese Smartphones send user data to their servers for whatever reasons.
