Hello friends,
i am using lenovo z570 laptop and am noticing that my laptop is not detecting any cd's.
Some cd which are detected it ask me to select between two options
1. use it as pendrive
2. burn disc.
when i select 1st option it just shows formatting drive and then shows unable to format.
Tried to update drivers but no updated drivers found through device manager and no drivers on lenovo website.
Please help need to extract some important files :(
Note : I can hear sound from cd drive so hardware is working and previously when i was on windows 7 it was working fine.

CD Drives are prone to failure. I got the drive changed at least 6 times during a period of 3 years of ownership of a Dell Laptop. Even though it was hardly used.

@OP : install nero and see?

@chromaniac Dell is the worst PoS I've encountered till now. It has an robust image online but every shit pc giving problem has been dell for me. hell, a friend of mine bought 10 dell laptops for this company and 2 coinked off within one year. I know its confirmation bias but I ain't touching dell with an 10 ft pole!

Usage is a must for CD/DVD Drive. My Laptop's CD Drive conked years ago because of no usage. Managing without it. Our Desktop's too stopped working, my dad had it replaced against my advice of letting it be. Used it a couple of times & then because of no usage its gone too. This time he took my advice. If at all there is a DVD to see (marriage videos/school functions), we request a close relative who lives nearby to bring his laptop & have seen which would have been like 3-4 times in the past few years...

Now coming back to OP. Better get it checked. Maybe only lens cleaning is needed. If not, would need a replacement.

Have been doing fine without an optical drive for years now. I do have an external unit that was working when I checked it few weeks ago. But have not even used it since I bought it many many years ago. The external unit has lasted longer than any of the internal drives I have owned in a decade.

ok so i installed nero and it didn't help.
After that noticed that some updates were downloaded and it needs restart to finish the installation so restarted my laptop and checked with one CD but as usual it didnt worked. But i thought to check with some other CD and EUREKA !! started working flawlessly.
Finally copied the important data :)
Thank you all for your response.
I think @mhsabir is right as i didn't use the drive for long time that might have caused the issue.
