@unnecessary can you share some ping tests, traceroutes, speedtests to multiple servers? you sure thats causing coz of airtel upstream??

TPF also relies on Bharti Airtel. Good for them imo. Airtel has good pings and routing, better than VSNL for sure. I have also noticed that some of the content on netflix is fetched from Airtel's CDN if it's not there on TPF's CDN.

Good move by excitel. Airtel backbone for cheap.
All ISPs are known to have routing issues from time to time. They will iron it out eventually.

agreed!! every isp have routing and latency issues from time. i was having routing issuse to singapore on hathway. after emailing noc team they fixed it now and latency dropped from 180ms to 60-62ms...

on some reliance route based in singapore it was taking over 100ms for some reason. thankfully now its fixed...

I am no longer on Excitel, but I did check the upstreams on bgp websites for my old IP, and it indeed looks like they switched upstreams to Airtel. I wonder if I should try them again.

Did a test just now cuz the internet is struggling, it is over LAN. Where are the airtel lovers guys?

Ping test to google :
Pinging 8.8.8.8 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=40ms TTL=118
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=40ms TTL=118
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=40ms TTL=118
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=41ms TTL=118

Note that previously on tata it was 6-8 ms.

More tests to local servers

1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1
2 2 ms 1 ms 2 ms (Privacy)
3 3 ms 3 ms 4 ms (Privacy)
4 * * * Request timed out.
5 40 ms 40 ms 40 ms 142.250.166.160
6 40 ms 40 ms 40 ms 142.251.76.33
7 45 ms 48 ms 41 ms 142.250.238.197
8 41 ms 41 ms 41 ms dns.google [8.8.8.8]

Servers which always gave above 400 DL on tata

Can anyone else with excitel 400 Mbps plan can do these same tests on their end and share the results for comparison?

Your 8.8.8.8 shows direct peering between Excitel and Google's peering PNI in Mumbai. The latency between Jaipur & Mumbai should generally be 25-30 ms. Likely, it's on a failover path on Excitel or they don't have a direct BB.

It's a direct peering between Excitel & Google; there is no "Tata" to make the decision here. It's Excitel's router. Do you see any Airtel IPs at hops 2, 3, and 4?

Now, why is it choosing Mumbai instead of Delhi?
I can't give you an exact reason unless someone with access to Excitel's core routers does a "show ip bgp 8.8.8.8."

For Hyderabad, PNI would likely be in Bangalore, so ~10ms is expected.

They are trying to get things working ever since the fire incident at STT GK.
