Please support a campaign to request for static /56 IPv6 prefix delegation for Xstream Fibre users as per RIPE-690 and the APNIC guide, from Airtel. The current /64 dynamic prefix causes connectivity issues.

Why this matters:
Are you tired of Airtel assigning you a dynamic /64 IPv6 prefix that keeps breaking your network setup? SSH tunnels? Remote access? Smart home configurations where you have multiple VLANs etc? You're not alone. Here's what you can do.👇
  1. File a request with Airtel's appellate authority for your own circle using the link below:

Subject: Request for Static /56 IPv6 Prefix Delegation – Airtel Xstream Fiber

Hello Airtel Team

This is regarding my Airtel Xstream Fiber ID 1234_wifi (insert your ID).

I am facing network instability due to the current dynamic /64 IPv6 prefix assigned to my broadband. This affects remote SSH sessions and disrupts my workflow among other issues as described below:

Best practices (RIPE-690) recommend a /56 static prefix for residential users to support subnetting and improve stability:

Also see APNIC’s IPv6 guide:

I kindly request a static /56 IPv6 prefix delegation per global standards.

Additionally, you can also make the same request on X and tag Airtel's X handle, you may also additionally directly comment under this existing thread of my friend, who's an IPv6 consultant, to try and attempt to put pressure on Airtel:

We IPv6 users would appreciate if all of you come together to make this happen.

To the people cracking jokes not saying you shouldn't do it but also at least send the email. He drafted everything and if people ask for it maybe they'll prioritise it. Not asking for it is not doing you any favours in getting good internet.

that's too optimistic for telco service.

It took me 15 months and a few hundred calls just to have them fix their Static IP provisioning automation issues and their VPN QOS settings on BRAS level.

these are problems, FYI.

features are a far cry.

You fail to understand the difference between a single person asking for it vs hundreds.
How much effort does it even take on your end?

I have done my part, sent the email to appellate. Really hate non standard implementations, especially when doing it the right way costs nearly nothing.

Infact, we should also bother TRAI when they ask for public opinion/whitepaper stuff. I remember reading one of the bloggers asking top management of Airtel for larger prefix for PD. Apparently, not enough people ask for it, so they don't do it. Sometimes, allocating larger subnet to customers can show better utilization, and therefore better allocation of IP resources from APNIC.
