India’s largest e-commerce firm
Flipkart Ltd will soon start displaying native and video advertisements on its mobile app, a new, potentially key
business for the online retailer.
“We are in the process of testing a launch. In a few days, you’ll start seeing ads on Flipkart. We’re not doing that with
Myntra right now. Over time, we’ll see how things go and take a call with Myntra,” CEO Bansal said.
Flipkart, which started generating ad revenue last year, is readying its mobile ad platform and will start serving ads on its mobile app within the next three months, Mint reported on 24 April. As soon as it starts publishing ads on its app, the company will encourage its ad clients to shift marketing efforts onto the mobile from the desktop.
Bansal said Flipkart will experiment with various ad formats but the company will avoid banner ads on its mobile app. The company will initially show ads by third-party sellers on its platform.
