The range is less for 5 Ghz ac band, but it's excellent for b/g/n in my router. Covers the places at home where I was using a repeater before.

All our devices are AC. I no longer use 'n', I anyways have the DIR-850L for extended coverage but just not happy with this R7000

And do try merlin firmware, i have used merlin on Asus router and found it pretty good

Their latest firmware 1.0.5.48 has torrent client on the router. It can download directly to the attached USB drive. You don't need to have you PC on to download.

No @chetansha ... I've had to live with the stock firmware due to time constraints and have used my old routers to extend range on the other floor for now. Will probably try it when time permits
