MTNL Mumbai Frequent disconnection on 8mbps plan...!!!

Snr - 20 and 11, attenuation 29.5 and 19.5, hec errors 14489 and 4460, crc errors 2911 and 79, fec errors 8759 and 0, total es 3511 and 34, Interleve depth 1 and 1. Let me know if anything else is needed... can someone confirm --- what are this numbers for ones where all is well?

Most weird thing is on voip calls, other side can hear me fine, but when other side speaks - it breaks for me...This used to work so damn well for years. I am trying to find possible cause, so mtnl guy can focus on that, else it wont go anywhere

Tested ping to 8.8.8.8

There were intermittent packet drops (very few though) and round trip time was 20 to 25 ms. This was couple of hours before.

Did same test now (post mid-night) and I get round trip time 7 to 10 ms with very few going up to 60 ms, and nearly no drops. However, as far as SNR and other stats are concerns, they are more or less same, with CRC and other errors going up.

Ideally there should be zero drops. Packet loss would explain VoIP issues and CRC/HEC errors.

Now what could be causing this?

What is your IP series? At this point the line could be a culprit , and mtnl usually doesn't mess up server side config that could result in packet loss.

What is your max attainable rate? Can you check line for disturbance?

If nothing works out, you might want to shift to 2/4 Mbps and see how that goes.

No disturbance in line...

As of now (post mid-night), nearly no packet drops while pinging to 8.8.8.8 but CRC/HEC/FEC errors are increasing.

CRC/HEC accumulate over the entire session duration. If you restart the modem, they'll start from 0.

Considering you've already verified the modem and internal wiring to be fine; try downgrading to 4mbps and see.

If no telephone is used, you could try plugging in the line directly to the modem, bypassing the splitter.

Is the line attenuation stats fine and at acceptable level? They are stable at 29.5 and 19.5...

Do you get snr margin values stable or does it fluctuate? Mine fluctuates but asked someone having airtel broadband, it is fairly stable for them. Could this fluctuation be an issue?

No, they shouldn't fluctuate. My snr stays constant around 31dB.

Fluctuation can be the result of n number of things: modem not working properly, faulty splitter, line problems etc.
