Frequent disconnection with Netgear WGR614 Router

Hi, I am using Netgear wifi WGR614 router with my airtel beetel modem. The problem is that the connection keeps on getting dropped while surfing the net, I can see the connected icon on the systems tray,so it shows that i am connected to my router thru wifi with my laptop, but data stops coming. Either I have to disconnect the connection on my laptop and connect it again or sometimes, the Connected computer icon on systems tary hangs, and dsnt open when i double click on it, and i have to restart my laptop. Please let me know whts the probelm. Is it with the router or with my laptop, and how to fix it? Also, when i connect my HTC thru wifi to the netgear router simultaniously, the connection never drops with HTC. Please help

Yes i am using beetel 220BX + Netgear WGR614.
HTC is a mobile fone with built in Wifi
I am coonecting laptop to Netgear router through wifi. Yes i am using wifi in my laptop to connect to the router not the ethernet port.

put in an appropriate IP and DNS address in your lappy at Wifi... that should solve the problem...

Laptop takes the IP and DNS automatically..

If you say Laptop WIFI stops download , but AT THE SAME TIMEyour HTC mobile phone can connect to /work Internet, problem could lie, with the Wireless LANcard Adapter. Check in Device Manager, and update drivers if available.( By the way OS is VISTA or Linux ?) Sometimes if the Wireless Channel is changed it may help. Try. Just to check :can you post the D/L speeds shown in Beetel Modem ? and the Mod selected ?

yea.. either problem with your wifi card or your pc , you know it hangs and stuff.. re installing the OS may help..

The OS is XP.
How can i change wireless channel? You mean go to my router setup page and in the wireless settings option, click on sub option "Channel"???? There by default "Auto" is selected, and I have the option from 1 to 13, which one to choose?
D/L speed is 512Kbps
What is Mod? it says Mode=G.DMT

When wifi connection is working for Laptop go to
Start/Network/Wireless Network/Status/Properties. Note data.
Also disable all unneeded programs appearing in Taskbar.

In Beetel Modem 220BX you can check/uncheck the mod mode. Usually all are enabled.

I updated the wifi driver on my laptop, and i think its working fine now. Its almost 8 hrs now, and i m still conected.....kool.. thanks for the help ...:yahoo:
