So, I bought the AXGB18CHAA-B variant of General Window AC this week to replace a really old Hitachi model. Reviews for this model are pretty non-existent online. And the ones I found were mostly brutally negative. Apparently, a lot of people are facing PCB failure on this model. And warranty on PCB is just one year.
Anyways, my AC guy was pretty happy with the response for this model from his other customers, so he recommended me this over other options.
AC itself seems to be pretty nice. Weather is not very hot, but it is pretty humid. Performing well in this weather. Remote is the same design as the remote on another General unit I have which is 16 years old! Frustrating. I never liked that remote and the same experience here. LG and Samsung remotes are so much better than this.
I had two points to mention about this AC which is not easily accessible online. There is no display on the AC. It has an 88-digit display, but it is not used for temperature or anything else when the AC is working fine. Instead, this display is used to show error code as detected by the sensors on the machine. So just hope that this tiny display never lights up on your unit if you buy it! The only visual indicator on this machine is again similar to the 16-year-old model I have. Three lights. One to show that AC is on. One to show that you have sleep mode setup. And the last one to show that the super wave option is enabled which is what they call their auto rotating front flaps.
The other point I wanted to mention here is that this AC does not shut down immediately if you turn it off from the remote. Instead, it takes like 10-30 seconds. Manual does not mention anything. But from the looks of it, it is sort of a maintenance mode where it does something. It was pretty annoying the first time I noticed it. I didn’t wait for long and turned off the machine from the main switch. I got the AC guy to check, and he confirmed that this is by design and not an issue with my unit. I would love to hear from anyone who has bought an General Inverter Window AC in recent times. This might be something they are doing on inverter models or maybe on all their models launched in recent years.
The AC unit I received was manufactured just last month so that was nice. Not an imported unit as it seems like Fujitsu has a plant based in Dehradun. My older unit was an imported unit I imagine coz it has Urdu/Arabic print of the company logo in front! Dad bought two of them in 2008 iirc. One died last year but second one is still running well! Crazy. The Hitachi unit this one replace is also around 14 years old and repair was an option but the body had crumpled a lot and it vibrates so much that it shakes my window, we decided to dump it and get a new one.
