Samsung KIES is just like Nokia PC Suite. You would update and then it would require more updates. After some further updates it would ask you to download the latest update for the phone you have. And then probably it would ask for another update that would let you update the software on your phone using Kies.

Finally got it updated to JB thru KIES yesterday night....this experience made me to not get any samsung phones in future....

so any ideas if the official jelly bean update for Galaxy note has a major problem with wifi connectivity?
my friend's phone cannot connect to wi-fi at all after updating through kies.

What exactly happens when your friend tries to connect it? Any error message? Can you be a little for elaborate about the error?

Phone connects to wifi network. There is no data transfer.

Delete the network profile, try creating a new one then connect.
