I am planning to buy google chromecast, it seems snapdeal has a offer on it , just checking if i should consider any other alternative device before proceeding.

If you plan to stream stuff from your PC, get a media player box from WD or a cheaper alternative.
Chromecast is more suited for playing streamed videos from the internet. Yes, you can use apps that can stream data from your phone or computer... But it is not essentially designed for that. Plus you would need a good quality wireless network for it to work well.

Games... Chromecast is probably better as some games support it. You use your phone as a controller and the actual game plays on the TV. But again... if the core purpose is to watch videos and movies that are not streamed through Google Play and other stores... Get a media player device that has wireless support.

The main purpose would be to stream from phone/tab to the TV. Youtube , Movies and music from phone to TV and maybe few other tasks as well . I have wireless router in same room as TV, the wireless speed is 150 mbps.

wait for reviews from existing chromecast owners about performance of streaming from the phone... my experience was terrible when i was using the chromecast to stream my chromebook's display for some work. there was a lag of 5 seconds and the whole experience was painful.

I actually received good feedback from a guy i know who owns chromecast, but will not proceed to buy if there is an issue with delays in streaming. Also the most frustrating part has been how useless my LG smart TV has been proving when it comes to streaming from phone to TV, the experience has been bad and that is why i am looking into chromecast.
