this is not exactly a new thing. inbox had a dedicated category for purchases along with travels etc. the idea was to automatically categorize your emails. gmail does not seem to have a category for purchases surprisingly. but they still do identify and track your purchases to show them in google discover/feed to alert you of upcoming deliveries and stuff.
yes I know they track everything but it feels a little creepy to see they keep list of all my purchases from probably when I started buying stuff online.
tbh. it's not tracking if it is just reading mails in your google account. tracking would be if it was collecting and aggregating data from your online activity on something like chrome. which it also does if you are logged in with history enabled.
