Google Photos will start charging for storage once more than 15 gigs on the account have been used. The change will happen on June 1st, 2021.

All photos and documents uploaded before June 1st will not count against that 15GB cap.

Pixel owners will still be able to upload high-quality (not original) photos for free after June 1st without those images counting against their cap. It’s not as good as the Pixel’s original deal of getting unlimited original quality.

Google is also introducing a new policy of deleting data from inactive accounts that haven’t been logged in to for at least two years.

Agghh.. I rely so heavily on Google photos that it seems almost impossible to live without it. All my photos and videos are on Google photos and it isn't easy to switch services just like that. Seems that a lot of people like me will eventually have to upgrade to the paid tier.

One alternative would be to have multiple Google accounts, but it is too much of a headache to manage!

Because Google Photos has superb organisational skills that will help me locate very easily a scan from 2 years ago?

There is literally no reason to use Google Photos unless all your photos have faces and identifiable locations. Its just a giant dumping ground.

are they removing object/face recognition as well? :| from now google one accounts? i seem to have missed that component if true.

Nope. I am just saying that using Google photos is only beneficial if your photos is of people and places. For someone who has mostly scans and other non face photos...Google Photos becomes a terrible place after a while.

well yeah. but that does not apply to regular people lol. my google photos account is just screenshots along with random shit photos i take to share over twitter over the last couple of years. but i still have all most old photos in optimized format stored on it. i would rather keep it there as an additional backup plus discovery because onedrive discovery is shit.
