I had it installed already. But I do feel it might be a prerequisite.
Others can please confirm

The app is only to find the devices you own. Any device you have connected to google will already be included. I have my phones and earbud listed in Find My Device

I didn't got any notification automatically so downloaded the app and enabled it manually. By default it was set as OFF.

I have set it to high network area option as I guess that should be by default. With "network in all areas" may cause some privacy concerns.

Which option you guys are using?

I didn't install the app until yesterday just to check what it contains. My devices were already on the platform after I got the mail about 15 days ago. Like I said yesterday, you don't need the app (not a prerequisite). And yes, the default is high network area option in the app as I haven't touched any setting yet.

No, it's for finding your device. It's not a GPS setting.
