I read somewhere that the reason why CAS is being forced on us is that govt can moniter what we are watching. Is this true?

Rumor mills grinding away. If you don't want CAS, go for DTH. As simple as that. In any case, what is there on tv that scares the government so much that they want to keep tabs on watching habits? People watching Kyonki Saans Bhi Kabhi Chudail Thi?In fact, I am more concerned about DTH and cable companies tracking viewing habits and bombarding us with targeted adverts. That, definitely, is a scary and irritating scenario.

Technically I don't think CAS can track people's channel viewing habit, because there is no feedback medium in CAS. Its only one way transmission from MSO to user. Only IPTV can track user data because in IPTV for each action of user (Channel change/Movie on Demand/PVR) a request is sent to server on which server acts accordingly. CAS is simply a addressable cable which is in digital mode
