GTPL Static IP + Port Forwarding: Real-World Experience Needed

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to get a GTPL Fiber connection in the Surat (Gujarat) region and am considering purchasing their static IP add-on (they quoted ₹2500/year).

My main goal is to use port forwarding — for hosting small services remotely (like a game server, web server, or SSH access).

However, I’ve heard that some ISPs still place users behind CGNAT even after assigning a "static" IP, which prevents true inbound access.

So before I proceed:

Has anyone here successfully used port forwarding on GTPL with a static IP?

Are static IPs truly public routable IPv4 addresses, or are they still behind CGNAT?

Any special router settings or support requests needed to make it work?

I'd appreciate any first-hand experiences or advice. I’d prefer to avoid CGNAT entirely — otherwise I’ll likely go with a cloud/VPS workaround.

I can answer your 2nd question: it depends on the ISP. At one point Act in hyderabad was doing the CGNAT static thing, for example. You can only know from users of GTPL in your area.

The best bet is always tailscale/zerotier/netbird to access your home resources, or to setup your own VPS to act as a reverse proxy to a private VPN to your home.

In both the cases you will need a device to run 24/7.

Is GTPL also truly unlimited without FUP? Do they send someone at your home if you consume a lot of data which may look commercial? Also have you ever gotten something related to FUP? Do share your experiences. Thanks

I currently have Excitel 400 Mbps and thinking about getting a new ISP for backup but I won't pay a single penny to any ISP offering 3.3 TB data. GTPL is the only one apart from Excitel offering FUP free data. The max plan they have is 200 Mbps which is very low for me but as it's a backup I'm fine with it.

Also share any experience you have with GTPL. Thanks guys

From what I know, they provide real "routable" public IP on your modem.
The problem would be the modem/router you are using and if it has port forwarding capability.

2500 (if it is inclusive of GST) is a good price.

Yes its possible and was setup by the customer support keeping my Local provider on call.

1. Yes, i have used Port forwarding on GTPL Static IP.
2. GTPL Assigns a /32 Public IP address to your router via PPPoE, no 1:1 CGNAT IP.
3. Have used my own router and their ONU/ONT in bridge mode so cannot answer this question.

Ill also say that to me it appears that GTPL offers static /64 to their customers for LAN side and a static /128 on WAN, my v6 Prefix and WAN's /128 address have not changed in years, so if you can work with IPv6 then you don't need to get their static IP. You just need to allow whatever traffic you want, incoming via the firewall.
