Gulshan Dhaba had big banners highlighting that they supported cards and e-wallets. No names were mentioned so it was not a surprise when they told me that Paytm was supported. We had our food and I told the waiter that I wanted to pay using Paytm. He told me that I would need to accompany him to the counter to pay using Paytm.
The counter guy was not amused. He first told me that Paytm 'was down' so I would need to pay using an alternative method. I took out my credit card. Suddenly he was interested in Paytm. He gave me the QR code banner. And asked me to try paying as they had crossed the limits. I tried paying and it went through just fine. The account was not in the name of the dhaba but some individual.
I can only imagine that they were creating individual accounts to get around the tax paying requirement. Paytm is easy. But not credit card. Which is why he was not interested in me paying through card. Accepting payments through hundreds of Paytm account would probably help him avoid the whole tax angle.
