handytone 286 voip with Sify

Guys, I am new to broadband world and thus need your help. Recently I took Sify connection for using Grandstream Handytone 286 voip adapter but somehow its not working. Please help me in this regard.Here I have few doubts which I believe is the roadblock:1) Is router MUST if I want to use VoIP? If yes, suggest me the best router.2) I have purchased a Switch, but somehow my adapter and system is not able to get internet simultaneously. So, whats the problem.3) Is username and password used for sify login is a roadblock? If ye, how to solve it...can ify people provide it without uername and psw.4) Sify also says that if you want to use a system other than the registered one, then you need to regiter its MAC address with them. But when I am connecting the net cable directly to voip adapter, they are not recognisinhg it MAC address. Let me know.

are you dialing using your computer or is your modem/router dialing for you??

Hi superprash, sify doesn't provide any modem/router. its a direct cable which we need to plug into the lan card of our system (it has static IP). So, i had to feed the data manually into voip.as of now, i am not using any router/modem.

then what you can do is use your computer as a gateway.. since you use windows xp you can enable ICS(internet connection sharing).. for this you need two LAN cards.. since you already have one.. you may have to purchase another one.. i think it shouldn't cost more than 200-250rs..Then enable ICS and connect your VOIP adapter to the 2nd LAN port of your computer..this was you can share your internet connection with your voip device..

I have purchased a Switch, but somehow my adapter and system is not able to get internet simultaneously. So, whats the problem.

Sify point ===>>>Rj45====>>> to switch
A>from switch ===>>> Rj45 to computer Lan port. /Dial/connect to SIFY and test.
B>from switch ===>>>> Rj45 to VOIP Adapter modem. now try to dial. and test.
C>If B fails remove Rj45 from computer and connect to VOIP adapter
D>you have already tried sify to voip adapter : failed.
Para two :
OR buy a router and connect Sify connection to LAN1 Computer to LAN2, VOIP adapter to LAN3. not tried.
Option E>
OR enter the IP of the VOIP adapter in TCP/IP properties.
