My WD 1TB HDD was on the verge of crashing 1.5 years back. Out of 3 partitions, i had data on 2, and the OS on 1. OS behaved weirdly, so i thought of installing the OS again.......but it never got installed. So i backed up the data, formatted the HDD, and tried everything all over again. It still didnt get installed. That confirmed that the HDD had bad sectors. So i guess before it messes up further, its better to have things backed up (of course, it appears that most of ur data is anyways backed up on cloud!) & go for the replacement. They shudnt deny it. WD guys gave me not only the replacement, but the warranty was renewed too! That was something good IMO. But then the HDD has never failed till now! :DIf u remember, during July-August last year, i was always talking about running my system with the help of External drive & the OS on Pendrive!

righto. ordered a wd hard disk. would backup data. not touching this disk right now. might get the new hdd later tonight if the delivery guy reaches in time. should be fun. i do not even remember how the things are arranged inside the box :\ would get extra sata cables just in case. :\

i suppose so :\ made a mistake with the order. ignored the logical advice of going with seagate barracuda and ordered a wd green. roshan recommended it. but prathap came online a bit too late and said that the wd green are horrible. and he is not even talking about performance :P more about reliability. so basically ended up ordering a shitty drive that would probably die soon enough. :\

yeap green ones suck basically. can't you cancel the order? or maybe order an enclosure and turn it into an external HDD used for periodic data backup/dump. it should last long in that role.

this one is actually running cooler than the two seagates i have.

regular formatting the drive with bad sectors is taking way too long :D

i have recovered most of the data. a few files were corrupted. no damage done.

maybe its because of the night temperature being lower? did you clean your cabinet while installing?
