I purchased 2 x 2TB drives of Seagate ST2000DL003 for Rs. 3900 each. That was sometime in August last year. Now the same drive costs exactly double. But still better than triple the cost it was 2 months back. A dealer at Lamington road told me that it's nearly impossible for prices to return to their pre-floods levels this year. The reason is simple. Right now, the hard disk manufacturers are fulfilling their main orders from OEMs like Dell, Sony, Samsung, Acer, etc. Because that's where the real profit lies. The market of bare drives is insignificant to these manufacturers. So there will always be an artificial short supply of bare drives and hence the high prices will continue to remain high.
