Hi,
I have been with Tata Play fiber since March-24 and so far it has been excellent experience. Zero downtime till date.

However now I notice that my Outlook Client Gmail access POP3-SMTP is no longer working.
I checked the settings in the client and on Gmail server as well as in the router. Everything is just the same. Still I temporarily disabled firewall in router but still the same issue. All it says is 'Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection'. This is misleading.

I turned off the router & switched to Airtel Mobile Internet hotspot and Outlook client is able to send receive messages correctly without any error on Gmail.
Back to Tata and the connection to server terminates.

So it seems something is changed at Tata backend
I have opened a ticket.

Will keep you posted. Time for Wireshark to come into play now!!

were those complaints in general or all were related to tata?

Hi All,
I suspect it was some issue with Tata backend, may be firewall.

They outright said that to solve this I need to switch to static IP. Which I did not accept at all. I told the engg to talk to higher ups and get a resolution instead of pushing me to static IP blindly by first level NOC.
I then called the sales manager who sold me the connection and made it very clear to him to expedite the solution by tech experts, not just field engg and access to outbound services on POP & SMTP should be available to all irrespective of connection type. Some users may even buy these services from email providers.

I clearly showed to them that when on Airtel mobile hotspot it is working fine and even when I use VPN and bypass Tata backend firewall it's still working fine. So I doubt it's Google issue. He came to my place and someone took remote access thru anydesk. I showed them all evidence that this is backend issue and there's nothing wrong at my end. The field engg indirectly admitted that he had no much knowledge on this and this is with NOC. Still they wasted my 2 hours fiddling with router and several settings. Then he left. In the meantime I had captured Wireshark logs both with Airtel Internet and Tata's. The logs showed problematic packets with Tata. Preliminary handshake was happening between ephemeral port at my end and TCP 995 at gmail but it was all red highlighted in the log indicating issues with packets.

Later he connected me with NOC over phone to whom I explained the things and also shared the wireshark logs.
Then most likely after each attempt done by them from backend, I was called over phone and asked to check again & again.
Finally it started working fine after 7 PM in the evening. After my confirmation they just closed the ticket.
When asked for the cause and fix they kept quiet and did not share anything at all.

Also there's no placeholder for such complex issues in raising tickets I had to select closest match as LAN and WiFi issue while raising ticket!
