It really depends from area to area. Lot of people in Mumbai are saying they paid about 1k for the SD box. I have been quoted 1500 by my cableguy for a SD box. So there is no real fixed price from Hathway as such. 1700 is a bit much. 1000 is the ideal amount that that should be paid for a STB.

Bought one for my neighbour for 750 bucks here in Hyd.

Actually it is depending on ur area.if ur area covered Hathway then original price will b there around 750rs r some private organization running hathway in ur area then it is their wish to charge.Depending on demand they will charge.It is applicable to HD STB also.

Update:Hathway suffering with bandwidth problem.Mumbai and Hyderabad capacity is 20HD channels and Bangalore capacity is 16.Hathway working on it..so when ever they will increase their bandwidth that time only we can see new HD channels.Hope may 28th Sony HD and sony six HD r launching..by the time this issue will be fixed.

Now I got a call from hathway helpline.M tunes HD will b added with in one month in hyderabad.Now they in process to increase bandwidth.
