Hathway is asking for a Static IP to enable Bridge Mode on F670L. Can I do it on my own?

Hi everyone,

I've been using Hathway Broadband for a few year now. No issues so far. I've used a TP-Link Archer C80 as my WiFi router primarily and use the ZTE F670L Hathway gave me for the router duties. However, I've been having issues with port forwarding lately and after a few experiments, I've narrowed down the problem to the F670L modem.

With that conclusion, I wanted to use the F670L in bridge mode and hand over router duties to the more capable Archer C80. But when I checked with Hathway, they said I have to opt-in for a Static IP at Rs.118/month if I have to put the modem in bridge mode - which seems rather stupid to me since both are unrelated. I tried setting it up on my own following a few guides but I have failed to do so thus far. I also don't know the PPPoE password and Hathway refuses to share it with me. I tried inspect element and everything but no luck thus far.

Apart from the bridge mode setup, I also read about a DMZ setup for the WiFi router that should work as an alternate method. But I've been unable to figure out that as well.

So I wanted to check here if anyone had any suggestions about what I can do in this situation.

Any inputs are welcome.
 
Don't buy static IP from hathway. They do something weird with the routing when you switch to static IP and you get terrible pings and packet loss. If the current setup(ZTE modem + TP-Link router) is working fine for you, don't try to change it.
 
@87056 - that's the issue. Something stopped working properly with the setup and the ports I used for torrents wouldn't stay open once I start a torrent client. Hence the exploration into DMZ/Bridge Mode.

I didn't want to buy a Static IP from them as well. I have zero need for it. But I also have to figure out how to configure the ZTE Modem + TP-Link so that they work in bridge mode or DMZ mode.

Any suggestions?
 
@tr1k0N4 - Yes. I've called them at least 3-4 times asking for the password but they have not been able to share it thus far.

How can I set this up with the DMZ method? I remember seeing a thread on Reddit where they said it worked for them - Reddit - Dive into anything

When I tried it out, here's what I ended up with,
I have the ISP Modem on IP 192.168.1.1. And a WiFi router connected to it on IP 192.168.1.4. There are other devices connected to the WiFi router with IP addresses 192.168.0.x. On the ISP Modem, I added 192.168.1.4 under DMZ. But when I port forwarded on the WiFi router, it stayed open but then closed like it has been doing for a few weeks now.
 
You're doing it correctly though. Not sure what's causing it to not forward.
 
@warpspeed - Is it possible for me to turn off DHCP on the WiFI router and then add the IP address of the device running the torrent client in the DMZ? Will that help/work?

In any case, I'm getting the TP-Link XZ000-G7. This will be a standby (and a learning) until I get the PPPoE password from Hathway. I saw your other post in the other thread. But I don't have the SMS (I got Hathway well over 10 years ago!). And I don't have the contact details of any field personnel either.

EDIT: So I tried the above (connecting the Raspberry Pi that runs qBittorrent to the F670L and then adding it in the DMZ of the F670L). All ports associated with apps on the Pi are open by default - checked on canyouseeme.org. However, the qBittorrent specifically says "connection timed out". Whereas when I test for ports that are not associated with any app on the Pi, it shows as "connection refused"

According to my research (ZTE F602W modem + TP-Link Archer C5 v4), the PPPoE password seemed to be Hathway@123.

Try this yourself and let us know if it works.

On my own setup, I don't know how to port forward or configure bridge mode using the PPPoE password and my specific modem model/firmware.
