BSNL and Railtel are among the largest in terms of route-kilometers, but VSNL, Tata, Reliance and a number of other companies across various all have got fiber going all over the place - and weirdly, there's "still not enough" for everybody (which to me actually means there's not enough at reasonable prices).

Do you think there should be some price regulation by govt/TRAI for third party bandwidth resale... 'coz there is no way these companies would provide cheaper bandwidth to others which are in line with current (actual) bandwidth prices.

Yes and no. Yes, because there is a definite squeeze on smaller players who can't buy as much, but no because ultimately the market should decide the price (which it doesn't at the moment because technically there's not really any competition).

When the market decides the price instead of looking at something like 25 LPA/STM versus 1 CrPA/STM we're looking at a much smaller ratio of say 25 LPA/STM versus 30 LPA/STM as it does in other parts of the world and indeed, in other industries. Yes it's very nice that we can have this whole "the more you buy, the more you save" thing, but it shouldn't be such a steep discount in that respect - I wouldn't get a 75%+ discount on any other commodity just by buying 10 units instead of 1, why should it be that way on bandwidth?

I was just curios how the wholesale bandwidth prices have fallen in the last 10 years. Can you give some approximate numbers and also what is the trend going forward let us say for the next 10 years

I don't know enough about India pre-2006, but at that time the ceiling tariff was set at 2.99Cr/STM/year, where it remains.

No.

10 years is way too long, but it will only get cheaper as capacity increases and as technology allows us to push more data through the same fiber as we begin moving from 10gbit/s wavelengths to 40, 100, 400 and 1,000 gbit/s simply by replacing the equipment at either end of the cable itself.

I have 2 questions:1) By T&C no.15 - does it mean that we cant download warez and torrents ?2) Can payment be done only online or would you have a registered payment centre ?

1. In theory. This is basically the same as any other ISP (this T&C is an amalgamation of many ISP T&C)
2. We would prefer it done electronically somehow. It has benefits for transparency from our side (we can see the payment was submitted, whereas cash has a tendency to mysteriously disappear) plus it can be traced. But Cash/Cheque is also OK - we can issue an electronic receipt at the time we receive payment.

I would ideally prefer Direct Debit/ECS kind of payment system. But till that system is worked out, I am going to go cash only.

Stick to Cheque.. Its much safer & totally traceable..

I think we can offer that already, actually. We bank (primarily) with HDFC.

Actually, Credit Cards are safest, IMO - credit cards are insured.
