I guess I'll just open an account with Kodak or SBI as they have a branch in my locality. Lets see

Go to another branch? I'm looking to replace my atm only card. Will go to down to the local branch to see what they offer.

That actually reminds me, I've never been to a bank, except that one time when I had to get an SBI account opened. :D

I placed a request to upgrade to a platinum debit card through customer care. They said I'll get it before 18th if the backend team accepts it as per my eligibility. Lets see how it goes

Rome was not built in a day.
If the Govt is working out a cad with lesser transaction costs, it should be welcomed. However it will take its time to get settled.
But it should be optional for a customer what card (visa/master/rupay) he want at the time of account opening.

I have a question here. Does bank CC take requests for a new debit card over phone?

How do they verify account ownership? I'd be calling from my registered number, but beyond that do they ask for any details?

Yes you can request your debit card from customer care if you're from HDFC. However don't expect them to replace your RuPay card for VISA/MASTER card. You can see the respective phone banking no. of your city from the HDFC website
