I hope you know Rupay has tieup with discover, so your card is accepted internationally.

Also, for merchant, they can take POS from the new fintech companies like Paytm and the transaction cost is drastically lower. Right now banks are footing in the transaction cost for RUPAY because govt is forcing them to do so. But it may change in near future.

A bit off topic: I am unable to set a ATM pin for my debit card even after i have access to net banking. seems like going to hdfc atm is the only way to set it first time after opening new account , is that correct ?
To set PIN online, you need to have third party transfer (TPT) enabled in netbanking. To enable TPT, you need ATM pin. So, yes, for new customers, you have to visit HDFC ATM and set up the PIN.

Even for HNW accounts they offer only Visa platinum debit card while ICICI and Axis offers either visa infinite or mastercard world elite debit cards

@minuteman HDFC offers Visa Platinum which is supposed to be their highest value debit card. Also they are charging Rs750+Gst as annual fees.

Yes Salary account do get Visa Platinum but I think that other than ATM withdrawal, I don't use it anywhere else as I have a Millenia Credit Card from HDFC. Seems like it's better to downgrade my debit card to a free Rupay cards. At least it works great in India and the Merchants are always happy with it.

Fun fact- My friend owns a bike dealership and he adds up MDR if the customer wants to transact using any Credit Card as it eats up all his profit margin. For Rupay, it is 0.0% so they are very fond of Rupay cards.

Just received an SMS to apply for an HDFC Rupay credit card. Seems to have an annual spend requirement to get the annual fee waived off.
