The series is based on the original 1980s sitcom of the name. The series was written by Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen, and executive produced by Pocha, Cohen, Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, Phill Lewis, Bill Callahan, alongside co-executive producer Liza Katzer.
